Minutes/Notes

TutorMe implementation (Ecampus) 

  • Will be integrated in ~125 Ecampus accounts week of June 15
  • Also available to TRIO students 
  • NetTutor contract ends; integration will be removed from Canvas week of June 15 

Threadz discussion board analysis tool will be disabled week of June 15 

  • Tool is no longer being updated 
  • Changes to server software not compatible with Threadz 
  • Communicating with faculty who have been using it 

Discontinue Combined Canvas sites – status update 

  • Canvas team has communicated with faculty who had published C sites in the past year 
  • Actively removing Summer combined sites (content can be recovered if a site is published) 
  • Faculty can use course merge tool 

Course Merge Ecampus sections – status update  

  • 400-449 can be merged w/ course merge tool 
  • NO Ecampus merged with on-campus  
  • Expected to be ready in time for fall term 2020 
  • Ecampus scheduler will x-list summer Ecampus sections 

Change to Add TA tool

Faculty will no longer be able to add undergraduates as Canvas TA’s or graders 

  • Originally only FERPA training was required to be added as a Canvas TA or grader 
  • Office of the Registrar (OtR) will approve any exceptions 
  • OtR communicated this out to faculty – Lynn's team to follow to make sure this communication is going out to faculty 
  • Post meeting note: the change to this tool is pending further communication to faculty 

Turning Technologies integration

  • Looking to remove Canvas integration prior to fall term  
  • Usage of Turning student response system is low 
  • Concern about decreasing number of students who have licenses 

Top Hat

  • working on getting incoming students to purchase TH licenses via post-START modules
  • communication with offices and student support staff who need to understand the affordable course materials talking points  
  • Easy for faculty to identify if their student have a TH license 

Canvas EduApp center/Add LTI

  • Review issues and potential security concerns of allowing instructors to set up LTI integration 
  • Some folks using OER’s would like to use a tool called Hypothesis to make course material more interactive 
  • Hypothesis integrated with Pressbooks 
  • Free integration in Canvas is very simple 
  • Account-level integration not free; allows grade passback 
  • If we disable EduApp center/Add LTI, faculty would not be able to add it to Canvas (including Redirect tool) 
  • We will see what other institutions to – how they handle all of the requests for integrations if Add LTI is not open to faculty. Also include Security team. More information for LOS advisory committee on this topic in the coming academic year.

Zoom > Canvas integration issues and next steps 

  • Canvas vanity URL was an issue at the beginning of spring term – Zoom working on full compatibility with Canvas vanity URL; expected in mid-June 
  • Notification emails about Zoom recordings/deletions have been confusing (Zoom recordings are available in Zoom for 24 hours before they deleted. Zoom recordings are automatically transferred to Kaltura). 
    • Student access to Zoom recordings  
    • Issue is that students can access (view; download) all course-related Zoom recordings for 24 hours until they are automatically moved to Kaltura 
    • Post-meeting note: no change to student access to Zoom recordings in Canvas during summer term 
  • LTI Pro configuration in Zoom – many settings; not available to Canvas admins – only Zoom admins 
  • Going forward: keep things a simple as possible re: Zoom settings in Canvas 

Remote proctoring status  

  • Live proctoring on Zoom available spring term – 4 or 5 courses requested it 
  • 4 courses Proctorio; integrated with Canvas 
    • Working with DAS to ensure accommodations are met during exams 
  • Use of proctoring may grow in summer/fall 
  • 2 weeks needed to allow time for accommodations; implement Proctorio; identify who doesn’t have webcams, duplicate quiz (if needed), configure Proctorio settings, do a practice exam 

Canvas admin transition 

  • Lindy retiring July 31 
  • David Rios stepping in as primary admin 

Faculty support updates 

  • 231 project – adding video-conference-enabled classrooms (to ~105 existing rooms) 
    • Video camera (to film instructor or whiteboard); integrated audio that can be broadcast and/or muted 
    • Will likely be more than 260 rooms by end of fall term 
  • Remote teaching under development with Center for Teaching and Learning and Ecampus

Time permitting, we will pull together some updated stats about spring term, Canvas, Zoom, Kaltura, etc.

  • 4,048 published Canvas sites (3,867 in S2019)
    • Week of 5/25/2020: 89,103 Plays 
    • Out of 21,555 Played Entries 
    • 10,176 Unique Viewers 
    • 1,316,101 Minutes Viewed
